Mr. Ahmad has been working in driving simulation, vehicle safety, and human performance since 1994 and has extensive experience in managing research projects utilizing driving simulators and on-road vehicles. As a part of the team that built and wrote software for the National Advanced Driving Simulator, he has written software related to autonomous vehicle behavior modeling, modeling vehicle systems/interfaces, scenario authoring, data reduction/analysis, and simulator fidelity.
Mr. Ahmad has served as the project manager for a series of on-road demonstration projects utilizing automated vehicles and HD maps, as well as several simulation-based research studies related to studying vehicle safety and human performance in the areas of active safety, impairment, driver distraction, and driver modeling. Mr. Ahmad has also been involved in a series of projects to help make Iowa “AV Ready” with the Iowa DOT. He currently serves in the role of deputy director of NADS and is project manager for ADS for Rural America.
Mr. Ahmad is co-chair of the National Academies Transportation Research Board Committee on Simulation and Measurement of Vehicle and Operator Performance and a member of the Committee on Motorcycles and Mopeds.
